«…And today I`ll say everybody «Good bye» and start my travelling. » Snowy packs his things and says «Good bye» to his parents and friends. His mum and dad are very upset but they understand that he is grown up enough to make his choice. Snowy gets on the ice floe and swims away. The weather is very nice. The air is fresh and cool and Snowy eats delicious fish and looks into the distance, where incredible adventures are waiting for him. He has already imagined how he would walk in the places where there is no snow and ice and the weather is warm. His journey lasts for a long time, may be for a month. (He is small and can`t count.) The ice floe begins to melt and our traveller is very scared. During his travelling he sees many islands but doesn`t want to stop. He floats and floats and the block of ice is melting. Finally the ice floe quite disappears and Snowy finds himself in the water which is warmer than in the Northern seas. Snowy looses his bag and his things and with all the forces swims to the shore. He goes to the coast and sleeps much. He awakes and hears a strange noise. What is it? Snowy hurries and finds himself in a big beautiful city with many cars and crowds of people. This city is called St. Petersburg. There are a lot of parks, squares and fountains there. There is the Hermitage and the Russian museum there. Snowy can`t visit these places because he is a bear, the bears aren’t allowed to visit museums. Our traveller is in the most beautiful city of the world! The climate for white bears in St. Petersburg is comfortable. Snowy walks in the parks and gardens but everywhere people are afraid of him. Some of them even chase him. One angry boy throws into him a large stone and a poor thing hurts his leg. A tired bear walks between the trees and tries not to show to people`s eyes. Then he comes to the zoo and he goes along the cages with different animals. Here`s just no! There are giraffes, lions, monkeys, elephants, cheetahs and numerous birds and fish there. Snowy goes and goes and suddenly stops by the aviary with white bears. What happiness! He hasn`t expected to meet a white bear in the zoo. And now he is standing before him and even not one but a whole family. The youngest bear also notices Snowy. This is a girl-bear. She comes up to the cage and says, -Hello! What`s your name? You look like me and my mum and dad. You are a polar bear, aren`t you? - Hello! My name is Snowy. I am a polar bear too. And who are you? -My name is Jill. Where are you from? -I am from Arctic. And you? - I was born in the zoo. I have been living here since my birthday. -Tell me about Arctic, please. How have you come to St. Petersburg? (Snowy tells about it.)But suddenly the zoo keeper appears, he feeds animals. This is his first working day in the zoo; he is a new worker there. When he saw Snowy he thought that it was the animal from the cage. The zoo keeper takes the bear cub and carries to the cage. A frightened animal tries to pull out of the keeper`s hands, but it`s useless. The man puts fish in the cage and goes away. Jill’s parents are happy to see a guest in their cage. The mother’s name is Snezhinka and the father’s name is Potap. Snowy eats much and has a rest every day in the bear’s cage. He also plays with Jill and her parents. Then he wants to run away from the zoo and he tells about the plan of their escape. In the evening he suggests to climb the cage and run to the sea. Jill`s parents agree because they want to enjoy freedom. (When they were small, they lived in liberty.) At night when it`s dark they are climbing the cage, but in vain, they hear signaling and return to the cage. The bears family and Snowy try to escape again but they can`t. Four years passed, Jill and Snowy were married. They`ve got two sons and a daughter. But these children will never see Arctic .They will know about it only from their father`s stories.
