a small white bear. It was very frightened, seeking a refuge. First, I startled and screamed. Then I noticed that the bear was scared himself. I heard a strange sound, which was like a gunshot. So I woke my colleagues up and told them that we need to go and check what happened behind the snow hill. We put on our white winter coats, took necessary equipment and signal guns. We also wore special glasses, because it was difficult to look at snow on the sunlight. We skied round the hill. The bear followed us. In a distance from the hill two men were trying to get a white bear in a cage with sledges. There were two poachers, who had caught the mother bear. We appeared suddenly, in shining parkas, with thick guns and in strange glasses. When the small bear saw its mother it produced a strange sound. The poachers were not ready to see anybody. For a moment they were looking at our group, then turned round, ran and got on their snow-tractor. They must think that we were aliens! My colleagues were afraid of the large polar bear, but we designed a device to cut the ropes from a safe distance. The animal didn’t attack, it understood that we saved their lives
