Before I took part in the Expedition through the Arctic, I had lived by a schedule. In the Arctic you lose sense of time. Having 24 hours of sunlight we could start our hiking at what we thought was 3 PM but it was actually 3 AM.
Our entire being was focused on one thing: survival.
That day or night (I can’t say for sure) I was on polar bear watch while the others were sleeping.

Santa Claus.
I did not understand what was happening.
Maybe am I sleeping or just going crazy?
I got a bit of shock, and then I pinched myself to make sure I wasn't dreaming.
Maybe I think too much about the forthcoming holiday- the New Year and greatly miss my family.
When I was sure that I didn’t fell asleep into delicious dreams, I came nearer. I was a little scared.
A deer pack and a big men’s figure stood in front of me. Oh my God, it’s Santa Claus!
The fate decided to make me a Christmas present? Then I saw his sleigh. Santa Claus was looking at me attentively.
How could he find himself in such backwoods? I finally found the gift of speech and asked him in a low voice: "Is this my dream?
What are you doing here?” Grandpa looked at me with sad and kind eyes and said: “We got into trouble. We lost our way.
We were conveying presents to the kids for the New Year. We have so many gifts. My sleigh is full and heavy.
And my oldest deer is getting worse. I wanted to leave it but he gave me to understand with its sad eyes that it does not want to be alone.
It was in my service the long century and it was the strongest, the most endurable and devoted worker and friend.
We were living together the whole life. It always helped me and was my family member.
Now its life is coming to the end and he can not help me. I will not continue my journey without it.

I listened to Santa Claus and my heart was bleeding. I forgot about my expedition and decided to help him.
I was fond of animals since my childhood, I always loved Santa Claus and I dreamed of becoming Santa Claus .
He makes happy so many people. He made me happy, too, giving me what I wanted for so long.
He gave me my best and true friend - my dog named Pal, who lived with me for a long time and was waiting for me after my expeditions.
I understand what it means to lose a friend. I suggested Santa Claus to get warm. I knew that they needed to stop.
They had nowhere to go. I talked with Santa Claus for three hours. The deer was getting worse and worse.
Santa Claus did not leave it and I gave moral support to him. “What I am going to do?” Santa Claus was very upset.
The New Year is on the way and the children are waiting for gifts. I thought about my goal of life.
“Why should I risk my life for the sake of these blocks of ice? I prefer to bring people good and happiness.
Would I realize my dream?” Santa Claus did not want to part with the deer. We gave up hope to save its life. We had to act.
Santa Claus was silent and after a while he said to me: "I see you are very kind person and you can help me.
I was surprised:" What can I, an ordinary researcher, do? "Santa Claus replied:"
I was looking for a man whom I can easily pass on my experience. I am very old and could not do it.
It is your dream and now you can realize it. Make children happy!
They are the most beautiful creature in the world and only you can make their life magic.
I was puzzled but then I agreed. Since then I am Santa Claus and I am proud of it.
