A faithful friend

Before I took part in the Expedition through the Arctic, I had lived by a schedule. In the Arctic you lose sense of time. Having 24 hours of sunlight we could start our hiking at what we thought was 3 PM but it was actually 3 AM.
Our entire being was focused on one thing: survival.
That day or night (I can’t say for sure) I was on polar bear watch while the others were sleeping.
I didn’t have to fall asleep so I looked outside for some fresh air and came face to face with a ...

…dog, which began to pull my trouser-leg and bark.
I understood that someone has a trouble, and the dog calls me to help.
People of the expedition woke up because the dog’s bark was so loud and we went for the dog.
The dog led us to a deep hole in the ice. We saw people.
They went on the dog team and fall dawn.
We took all ropes that we had and began to help people and dogs. They carried mail on the polar station.
They had a rest, eat and then we helped them to go to the polar station. Workers of the station were very glad to receive their letters, and thanked us.
A few days later, after a rest, we continued our journey.
