The Expedition

Before I took part in the Expedition through the Arctic, I had lived by a schedule. In the Arctic you lose sense of time. Having 24 hours of sunlight we could start our hiking at what we thought was 3 PM but it was actually 3 AM.
Our entire being was focused on one thing: survival.
That day or night (I can’t say for sure) I was on polar bear watch while the others were sleeping.
I didn’t have to fall asleep so I looked outside for some fresh air and came face to face with a ...

… stranger.
The stranger was an old man.
He was wearing his unusual white clothes. He had a long stick in his right hand.
“What are you doing in this place”, asked the old man.
We are scientists and we took part in the Expedition. Our mission is to find the Dead Land”, said I.
“Have you seen it? I think that you know more about this place”, asked I.
“The Dead Land is very dangerous.
There are a lot of polar bears.
You must be very attentive”, answered he.
I kept silence. I knew a lot of facts about the life of the bears but I wasn’t going to meet them.
“We need to take some pictures of the location of the Dead Land. The scientists of our expedition explore Arctic climate and nature.
We know that the nature of the Dead Land is one of the amazing sights. The roar wind can be heard from a distance of twenty five kilometers”, I explained.
“I can be a guide for you”, suggested the stranger.
All members of our expeditions were very glad.
We took our bags and started journey. The way was very difficult, because it was very cold. It seemed to me that the temperature was eighty degrees below zero.
We fell through friable snow.
Two days later we reached the Dead Land.
All of us were fascinated with the land.
It was covered with a blanket of ice that can be one thousand thick metres.
We took some pictures of the place for our future station.
“Our scientists are going to explore this amazing world”, said I.
We were happy to cope with our task.
