The Travelling of Snowy
Ефимов Алексей. 10 лет. The Travelling of Snowy. LOW.
Snowy is a little polar bear cub. He lives in the northern Arctic with his family. Mummy bear, Daddy bear and Snowy can see ice and snow everywhere every day. They like swimming from ice floe to ice floe and digging holes in snow banks.
One day Snowy says, "I'm tired of this ice and snow. I'm going to live where I can see something quite different."
"But your home is here! Look! The snowflakes are dancing in the air! They are so beautiful! Listen to the snow! It's humming a very funny song, "scoosh-scoosh, scoosh-scoosh", his mother tells him.
"Nothing can stop me", answers Snowy. "I'm packing my things and ...
going to England where the weather is different”.
He takes his bag, puts the nicest snowflakes there, because he decides to give them to the inhabitants of England.
“England is far from the northern Arctic. I’m going to travel with the West Wind”, he says to his mother.
He begins to sing his song:
“What’s the farthest
I shall go?
That’s what I should like to know!”
Shall I ever touch the moon
As I would a gay balloon?”
Snowy swims across the oceans, seas, gulfs and straits. At last Snowy is in England.
“What a beautiful country! There are a lot of interesting birds, they are black. There are no such birds in the northern Arctic”, thinks a little polar bear cub.
Snowy is so surprised when he meets a funny man, who sings the song:
“In winter it’s slippery and foggy,
In summer it’s sunny and fine,
In autumn it’s cloudy, windy and rainy,
In spring it’s wet.
I like snow, because I like to play snowballs, ski and skate”.
Snowy says: “Hello! How are you?”
“Hello. I’m fine, thank you”, says Hobbit, “But, who are you?
“I am Snowy”, says a little polar bear cub, “And you?”
“I am Frank”, answers Hobbit.
“Where are you from?” asks Frank.
“I am from the northern Arctic. I live with my mum and dad there. I don’t like the weather in the northern Arctic. This year the winter is very snowy. We play snowballs, ski and skate. But I want something quite different”, answers Snowy.
“You are lucky. You can play snowballs, ski and skate. The weather in England is very changeable, that’s why we often say: “Other countries have a climate; in England we have weather.” A fine morning can change into a wet afternoon and evening. And a nasty morning can change to a fine afternoon. We play snowballs, ski and skate very seldom, but we like to do it”, said Hobbit.
“I have a good present for you. I am going to give the most beautiful Snowflake. It can call its friends and you will have much snow. You will be able to play snowballs, ski and skate”, says a little polar bear cub.
“Thank you very much. You are a true friend!” says Frank, “I’ll run to my friends, we will play snowballs”.
Suddenly it rained. Snowy got wet and began to sneeze.
“I must come back to the northern Arctic. Rainy weather is not good for me. I think I’ve caught a cold. Snowy weather is much better. Why didn’t I like to live in the northern Arctic? It was so nice to play with my friends snowflakes”, he thought, “The North Wind can help my returning”.
The way to the northern Arctic was much longer and a little polar bear cub was very tired.
Snowy was very glad to see Mummy and Daddy bear again. Mummy bear embraced him and asked, “Did you like England?”
“England is a nice country, but I will live only in the northern Arctic”, he whispered and fell asleep on his mother’s knees.
